Since a very long time there has been a relationship between humans and animals. We've always seen and heard about the best of the relationship between humans and animals, but there is also the bad or the cruel side of this relationship.
Humans and animals are very dependent upon each other and that is the real reason for the relationship between them. We like to keep pets and especially dogs, Man's best friend. We all have our own reasons to be dependent on animals such as protection from other wild animals, a helping hand in farming, etc.. Another common reason for humans to be dependent on animals is money. Things like milk, wool, leather, etc are extracted from animals which are later traded for money, but extracting things from animals and trading them is one way of getting money. Animals are also made to perform at places like circus, zoo, etc which helps in making money and of course to entertain people which is a good thing, but there is a touch of cruelty in these things. If the animals do not perform well, they are beaten which is very wrong.
At a visit to Pondicherry, I saw this elephant in front of a temple which had certain drawings on its body. People gave food and money to the elephant which it collected using it's trunk and gave it to it's master and in the end the elephant would tap on the heads' of the people who gave the food and the money. Some people thought that the taping was a blessing and some like me did not think of it to be a blessing. The reality was that the keeper would hit the elephant or shout AASHIRWAAD (blessing) every time the elephant did not tap on the heads using it's trunk.

The sad part is that the elephant did not have it's tusks. Of course they were broken off for the protection of the humans around, but isn't that an act of cruelty? Well being of the humans around the elephant has been considered, hence the tusks' have been broken off, but is the elephant still harmless? No it isn't. It is a huge animal and it can very easily harm the humans around just by stepping on to them. But still the humans will never learn even after making many mistakes and will always reside to an act of cruelty to get their work done and be benefited by the animals.
Breaking off its tusks' and beating the elephant with a stick is definitely an act of cruelty. We really need to stop doing all this.
Imagine ourselves in their position, how would we feel?..
